I graduated from a good engineering college… and then sat at home for 6 months without a job.
While my friends were:
• joining their first job
• flying abroad for higher studies
I was stuck.
Not because I didn’t have options.
But because I had decided — there was only one “right” option.
A job.
In the public sector.
That was my door.
And I kept knocking.
And knocking.
And knocking.
That door didn’t open.
Meanwhile, there were other doors right next to me:
• higher education (technical or management)
• exploring different roles
• trying private sector
Looking back today, I even feel the path of higher education would have been better.
But at that time?
I couldn’t see any of those doors.
Because I was fixated on just one.
⸻
Eventually, that door did open. Not wide… just a little.
And yes — it led to meaningful success over time.
But here’s the uncomfortable truth:
👉I could have avoided those 6 months of frustration, self-doubt, and agony.
That phase taught me something I carry even today: Never depend on just one door in life.
Because sometimes there’s a much better one already open… you just haven’t looked
A few weeks ago, I ran a poll on this.
50% said they would keep knocking on the same door until it opens.
And that made me pause.
Because we often confuse:
Perseverance = sticking to one door ❌
Perseverance = staying committed to your goal ✅
The real magic happens when you combine:
👉 Perseverance + Adaptability
• You stay committed to what you want
• But you stay flexible about how you get there
That’s when progress becomes faster, lighter, and far less frustrating.
So here’s something to reflect on:
Which door have you been knocking on that hasn’t opened yet?
And more importantly, what other doors might already be waiting for you to notice them?
