Out of office, into life

Time off from work is precious; yet, many of us feel tethered to it. When I took a short vacation couple of weeks back, I decided to do things differently, thanks to the insight from a poll I conducted last month.

I asked how people truly spent their time off. Surprisingly (and encouragingly), only 5% of respondents said they used this time to catch up on work or emails. The majority 95% dedicated their time to family, friends, hobbies, personal passions, exercise, and all those good things we often sideline.

Inspired by this, I made a commitment: I would stay fully present, no matter what, during my vacation. Sure, I packed my laptop, but I opened it only once—for a 90-minute critical meeting.

The rest of the time? I was all in. I savored the moments, immersed myself in the environment. I even took a break from social media, resisting the urge to post or check updates for two whole weeks.

There were times when I felt little anxious, worried about the dreaded backlog. But, I stuck to my commitment.

The result? I returned to work genuinely refreshed and energized—ready to dive back in with a clear head and renewed enthusiasm.

As we approach Diwali holidays, let’s use this time to rest, recharge, and return to work with the energy we need to thrive.
