Whose idea?

We see it all the time in organizations…

An idea or suggestion from a junior team member is ignored, only for a senior leader to echo the same idea and have it hailed as a breakthrough.

The value of an idea depends on its source rather than its merit.

Everyone agrees on creating a culture that does not rely on hierarchical validation… yet it continues to flourish…

Is there a way out?

While I am not a proponent of top-down culture… in this case, I believe leaders can truly bring a big difference by….

  • by being cognizant of behaviors leaning towards sycophancy – demonstrated even by very senior people.
  • consciously elevating / bringing to fore others’ ideas.

How else can it be stopped? Would love to hear your thoughts, please write in comments
