We often hear this phrase… when we are trying to build a culture of experimentation in organizations.
It’s time to question this phrase, especially given how much and how often it is used.
Let me challenge you before going ahead.
What’s your association with the word CELEBRATION?
– Popping a bottle of champagne
– Coming together with dance, music, good food and wine
– Give / receiving awards, gifts etc.
– Personalized thank you notes
– And even financial rewards
Which of the above is done when someone fails?
Have you seen individuals or teams send out invitation for a lunch or evening get-together with a bottle of champagne because they have failed in a project?
Or a manager sending a note to his I team, “I appreciate you so much… you have done a great job of failing at this….. Truly proud of you…”
I know, it sounds ludicrous! But, that’s what ‘celebrating failures’ sounds to me….
Yes, failures must be welcomed as without failure or mistakes no one will ever try anything new thing.
So, my question is can we use terms that capture essence of what we are trying to say.
I asked ChatGPT, here are few suggestions I liked:
– Embracing failures
– Failures as stepping stones
– Recognizing value of setbacks
– Rejoice learnings
– Celebrate the resilience
Would love to hear your thoughts…
