#Courage comes in different shapes and forms at workplace. We often experience courage or lack of it at workplace.
I recently experienced its presence and the positive impact. I didn’t believe in a certain initiative, whereas my team member was convinced that it’s the right way to do and would be successful. She tried convincing me, I still didn’t see the merit. But we decided to go ahead anyways…. Wow! It was a roaring success and brought in meaningful impact.
It was a clear example of #courageousleadership : standing up to one’s conviction.
How often do we fear stating a contrarian view or idea? How often do we just go along…. to please others or keep peace in the team.
Here are few forms of courage I have experienced in workplace:
1. #speakup : share your opinions, tag#ideas , or suggestions even when there is a potential for disagreement or disapproval.
2. #question status quo: existing or well-functioning systems or processes. And propose alternatives for higher effectiveness.
3. Take hashtag#ownership : accept own mistakes, rather than blaming others and focus on learning from it.
4. Be #vulnerable : to express authentic emotions or own limitations or challenges.
5. Accept #feedback : that is constructive or totally unexpected.
6. #takerisks : to take up opportunities or challenges that provide stretch.
7. Show #resilience : in face of failure, ability to move ahead despite several setbacks.
8. Demonstrate #integrity : by doing what is right when faced with ethical dilemmas.
9. Advocate others: who may be facing discrimination or harassment.
Have you experienced any other form of courage at workplace? Please write in the comments.
Which of these have you most experienced at workplace? And which ones have to you least experienced? Would love to hear your thoughts.
